Weekly Photo Challenge: Rise/Set

Georgian Bay @ Ontario (Canada)

For this week’s photo challenge, I have decided to share a sunset shot which was taken more than 6 years ago. I was shooting into the sun and have combined 3 bracketed shots to produce this HDR (High Dynamic Range) photo. I rarely do HDR photography now, but I was very addicted to it during my early days as a hobbyist photographer. This is one of my first photos and I was probably very proud or had a false sense of achievement. It is embarrassing to look at it now because I can see many flaws in my technique, and yet it is very satisfying to know that I have come a long way.

P.S. If I had taken just a single shot directly at the sun, then I would have ended up with a silhouette photo and it would not be possible to see the vibrant colors in the foreground.

Perfect, yet beautiful! One can feel the earth is awaking.
I don’t know any hobbyist photographer can achieve anything close to this shot. I have been a hobbyist photographer for too long. 🙂
    Thank you for sharing, Jeremy!

It is a lovely image. I think it’s really good to look back on work and see how far you have come, but to still appreciate the photographer that you were then.

No matter who you are, a photographer is continually learning. I know I am. Even though you can see progress I still think this image has a unique personality all of its own. Just loved this! HDR via camera is one technique I’ve yet to accomplish. I shoot RAW and that means the camera I have will not accept HDR. The camera will only allow HDR when shooting JPEG. So I “fool” around and “play” in editing rooms. (smile)
